I'm setting up a two node cluster for SQL AAG on vmware guests running windows server 2016. I haven't messed with a cluster in quite a while. I'm looking for networking best practice config for virtual hardware. Back in the day with physical hw i setup a separate NIC on each server and ran a crossover cable between each server for a dedicated network. What's the best practice (or close to it) in the virtual realm to mimic the function of the crossover cable of old? I've tried setting up a second NIC on a different subnet than the primary NIC but i often see 'network unavailable' messages in the event logs.
Any advice would be great.
