We have a hyper-converged two node cluster utilizing S2D. Server 2016 Datacenter running on Dell 740xd's.
The S2D currently consists of 3 x NVMe all flash ONLY which naturally put that tier into a capacity tier.
I am currently out of slots on the hosts to expand NVMe. However, I have 20 available 2.5" drives for SSDs.
My current plan is to install 3 additional SSD's into each host with ability to expand going forward.
My question is:
1. Is there a documented or proven method to add SSDs into this storage space correctly?
2. Will the S2D re-tier the NVMe into a cache tier automatically? I have concerns about performance if it doesnt, should I have concerns?
Additionally, should I turn off the auto function when inserting these SSDs into each host to get them "equal" before ingesting them into the S2D?
Any experience, guidance or insight is greatly appreciated.
