I try search for it but can find any post discuss on how to cluster Active Directory.

Creating 4 Node SQL Cluster

Hi

I need to create a 4 Node - SQL 2012 Cluster (all in active Mode).

Node-1 will be having 1 Instance, Node-2 will be having 2 Instance, Node-3 will be running with 1 instance, and Node-4 will be running with 6 SQL Instance.

Let me know whether can I install all the 10 Instance on Node-1 and then can i go ahead and add the  node-2 by selecting 10 Instances which is already installed and then node-3 and node-4.

or Let me know if any other recommended way of Setting up the Cluster.

Importing a fully functional Cluster to SCVMM

Hello,

I'm implementing SCVMM 2012 in my environment but i already have a fully functional Hyper-V Server Core cluster.

When i "import" my cluster on the SCVMM console, it brings the nodes, network etc... but not all the disks and it's not possible to MOVE virtual machine through hosts. (No error messages, it just says "Its not possible to move with actual cluster configurations")

When i ran "SCVMM's Cluster Validation" it results in several bad configurations of Disks and Network, but when i ran it in the Cluster Console is everything OK.

Any ideas?

Cluster network name resource error 1196

I have a two-node Hyper-V 2012 Core Server cluster. Initially, the cluster was working fine and I was able to do live migrations with no problem. I first realized that something had gone wrong when I was attempting to move a VM's storage to the Cluster Disk. When I right click on the VM and select Move > Virtual Machine Storage, the bottom left area of the "move storage" screen says "Loading..." forever and never displays the cluster storage. This happened once before and I was able to correct the issue by taking the Server Name resource offline and doing More Actions > Repair. However, if I try a repair now I receive the following error messages:

"There was an error repairing the active directory object for 'Cluster Name'. Error Code: 0x800713b8. The cluster request is not valid for this object".

I have verified that the cluster name Active Directory object (CCSDCluster) still exists and each node as well as itself has full permissions to the object. What I am not certain of is whether the object is still in the same Organizational Unit as it was originally. After the failed repair attempt, I am able to bring the Server Name resource back online successfully.

In addition, I am continually receiving cluster event errors indicating the following:

"Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: The handle is invalid. Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server."

Each of the two nodes has multiple NICs configured. One for management, one for guest OSs (Hyper-V virtual switch is configured to use this NIC and not allow management OS access), and two for iSCSI (for redundancy and multi-path). Live migration is set to only use the management NICs. The management NIC on both nodes is configured with valid DNS servers. The CCSDCluster DNS entry has full permissions for both nodes and itself.

Any suggestions on what to try would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Who holds roles when cluster nodes communication is interrupted ?

Hi All,

This is a basic question, i always thought it's a one, but only today, i encountered a situation where i was unable to figure out the result.

Suppose that:

- We have a two nodes failover cluster (Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V cluster)

- VMs are spreaded between both nodes

- The quorum model is 'Disk and node majority' and the witness disk is owned now by the second node (Node 1), the CNO too

The situation:

- All the Node 1 NICs fail, the Node 1 is unable to communicate with any network (Storage is FC, not concerned by the network)

- Node 2 is normal

The question:

What is supposed to happen now ?

what is the process, who will get roles... ?

Thanks a lot !

We have a 2 node active/passive 2008 Sql Cluster that also has a fileshare on it that randomly fails over. We get events

Events from Cluster Admin

Event ID 1230

cluster resource 'FileServer-(MSCS3)(Cluster Disk 4- Database)' (resource type '', DLL 'clusres.dll') either crashed or deadlocked. The Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process will now attempt to terminate, and the resource will be marked to run in a separate monitor.

Event2

EventID 1146

the cluster resource host subsystem (RHS) stopped unexpectedly. An attempt will be made to restart it. This is usually due to a problem in a resource DLL. Please determine which resource DLL is causing the issue and report the problem to the resource vendor.

Event 3

EventID 1069

Cluster resource 'FileServer-(MSCS3)(Cluster Disk 4- Database)' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (SQLPRODA)' failed.

Event 4

Event ID 1205

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'SQL Server (SQLPRODA)' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

We have updated the NIC drivers on each node, the Drivers and Bios have been updated on the HBA's. We have updated the srv.sys and the srv2.sys files thinking it might be an SMB issue. TCP offloading is disabled on the the Nics. We are running SP2 on both nodes and all the windows updates are current.  In the cluster logs we are seeing what is listed below.

Analysis
----------------
We are getting Error 64 and 2114 and the File share is failing with a Deadlock Error

Status 64 = the specified network name is no longer available.

Status 2114 = The Server service is not started.

We setup Netmon and ran traces yesterday when the issue happened and they did not show anything. The Server service does not seem to get any errors.
We have also engaged EMC into the issue and MS has escalated the case but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this issue or found any resolution. We have run out of options.

2008 R2 Multi-Site Cluster Possible without Third Party Software?

2008 R2 Multi-Site Cluster Possible without Third Party Software?  I know it has been asked, but I haven't seen a specific answer.  We are using Dell Compellent Storage and I created several read only replicated volumes at our DR site.  I am having issues failing over to the volumes after I use cluster cli to mount the read only volumes.

Any help would be appreciated greatly!

Multiple Clusters For Network load balancing on a Single Network Adapter

Hi

I want to create multiple NLB clusters on a single network adapter on windows 2012 server to support load balancing for multiple different web sites , each with different DNS Name.(Two Hosts)

In the NLB Manager I create first Cluster  and determine my hosts (multicast mode).

Then I add another ip address to Nic of my hosts , when I want to create second cluster and determine my host , there is no interface .and i get error "The RPC server is unreachabale on the specified server". while I can ping both of ip address of my hosts. also the firewall is off.

How Can I configure multiple NLB clusters on a single network adapter?

Thank you for your help!

Hello,

I have a couple Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Host clusters with many VM's running on them. Is there a way I can introduce a Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host server into each cluster, migrate the VM's to the Server 2012 R2 system and then be able to live migrate the VM's to another Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host in another cluster? Thanks

Best Way to Achieve Redundancy for Radio Station Server

$

I'm working on installing a new system for my company's internet radio station. Currently, we are running a Windows program to play back the audio (on the host machine) and then a second application to stream out the audio signal over the WAN.

I am wanting to setup basic hardware and software redundancy for the station. Would two or three computers configured in a cluster provide both hardware and software redundancy, or would I need anything else?

I'm trying to learn the best way to do this, so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Thanks!

Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster - Network Adapter Teaming

Hi !

I´ve got a little question regarding NIC Adapter Teaming
in a Windows Server 2008 R2 WSFC Cluster for SQL Server 2008 R2.

In KB254101 I read, that there are no restrictions that
are associated with NIC teaming since Windows Server 2008
Failover Clusters.

Here is an example, in which way I would implement it:

Server: HP Proliant DL380 G7 with two (seperate) onboard
adapters (each dual-port).

Adapter A: Port 1 + 2
Adapter B: Port 3 + 4

I would team ...
Port 1+3 for the public network
and
Port 2+4 for the heartbeat network.

The Adapters were connected to different switches.

I think, this could be a good configuration.

What do you think?

Is this a supported configuration?

Many thanks in advance!

Trying to setup a redundant server for server 2012

have some questions  regarding creating a backup for an all in one server. The server has active directory, DNS, the file server and everything on it. I'm trying to create a redundancy setup in case of failure. So I was reading about failover clusters and this seem to be what I need to do. I'm just a little bit confused. What is the difference between using hyper V and using clusters?

When I create a cluster and add servers to it, what exactly happens? For instance simplest case I have the main server with all the data. Now I bring in another machine with nothing on it. I install windows server 2012 on it and add it and the other computer to a cluster. Does the data from the main server automatically get copied onto all the servers that are part of this cluster? At this point if one server fails will the other one take over?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hyper-V Failover Cluster - Inconsistent Network Availability

$

We've got a Small cluster with, 7 hosts and a dozen or two VM's.  For some reason i'm getting inconsistent availability with the Cluster networks.  The host seem to function fine on there own but theres all types of issues using Migration which i'm assuming is because certain hosts think other hosts are unavailable. For Example:

Cluster Network 1 - From Host 8

Cluster Network 1 - From Host 10

As far as I can tell all of the networks are UP. I can ping all hosts on all interfaces.  What criteria goes into determining host availability?

IIS is not failover when I stop IIS

I configured HA and I have resource of IIS configured(because I have few virtual web sites hosted on it) via the below link (through generic script, provided by MIcrosoft). Then I stop the IIS via iisreset /stop command to verify that when the service stops there should be a failover happen. But still the IIS services are not failing over to other node.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887417/en-us

====================================

I have also noticed one thing. I created a generic service resource for WWW service. Now when I stop it via "net stop W3svc" (multiple times) , the WWW service gets stop and the cluster group failover to another node...

Now I dont need the below script which provided by the below link:

Any comment will be appreciated. Thanks. Zahid Haseeb.

Cluster Aware Updating Scheduling

I am having an issue with Cluster Aware Updating (CAU) on Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2. If I schedule self-updating and specify a time other than 03:00 (e.g. 07:00) in the wizard, when I get to the end of the wizard the confirmation page shows the schedule to be 03:00. if I click apply then the schedule does appear to be set to 03:00.The same behaviour occurs whether I am setting up CAU for the first time or editing an existing configuration. Thus it is not possible to schedule cluster aware updating for any time other than 03:00.

I am assuming that this is a bug, although I am open to suggestions if anyone else can think of a possible cause. I haven't found this mentioned anywhere online and I have been to MS Connect and Server 2012 is not listed as open for bugs. Has anybody else been able to reproduce this? Any idea how to report a bug if connect is closed?

I have two clusters, one on Server 2012 and one on 2012 R2 and I can reproduce on both:

OS Name    Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Datacenter
Version    6.2.9200 Build 9200

OS Name    Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
Version    6.3.9600 Build 9600

I am happy to supply further details if anyone is willing to help.

Thanks

SIMPLE QUESTION: HOW TO MIGRATE FROM WINDOWS 2008 R2 + SQL 2012 FAILOVER CLUSTER to WINDOWS SERVER 2012 CLUSTER WITH ALWAYS ON AVAILABILITY GROUP

$

0

Hello,

We have 2-node Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition failover cluster with Fibre shared storage (SAN) running SQL Server 2012 SP1. Below is current configuration - very simple and classic, I would say everything by the book:

This is what I think we want to achieve:

Objectives:

1. Upgrade Windows Operating System from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012

2. Migrate to SQL Server 2012 Always On Availability Group (AAG) for High Availability and Disaster Recovery

My question is how to achieve both goals?

If possible I would like to upgrade OS first. Ideally I would like to upgrade on the same hardware (because it should be minimal impact - no need to migrate data). If this is not possible, we have new hardware I can use also. But I guess it will be more impact and actual data migration will be required.

For AAG what I'm honestly missing is what would be the name of the second SQL server? Lets say my servers called DB1 and DB2, and SQL server called DB. If I create AAG, and fail-over to replica server, would SQL server name be DB as well?

I know there is lots of documentation on AAG and I went through it but I cannot find any specific information about names.

Another question I have - would 3rd server (DB3) be part of the same MSCS cluster? Or it will be separate server? How fail-over exactly works - do I use Fail-over cluster Manager to initiate failover?

Sorry for lots of questions, but any information would be appreciated very much.

Thanks!
