Hello,

I got this with cluster validation:

Failed to access cluster disk 2, or disk access latency of 0 ms from node yvrvthpw02.1800GOTJUNK.com is more than the acceptable limit of 3000 ms status 31

And I have updated the server with the hotfix KB 2531907.

Please help.

How to set private properties of a cluster resource using WMI?

Hi,

I wanted to know if there is an easier way to set or modify private properties of cluster resource using WMI from managed code (C#). One way I can think of is using ExecuteResourceControl Method of the MSCluster_Resource class to invoke CLUSCTL_RESOURCE_SET_PRIVATE_PROPERTIES control code. Is there a simpler way?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Cluster event log errors

Not sure where the problem is but my cluster, services and applications in the cluster seem to be running properly however I keep seeing the same event id errors in my log: 1069, 1205, and 1214 over and over about every hour. Is this normal? or is there something going on that i'm not aware of. This also happens on 2 other isolated separate systems in my lab.

Windows 2012 Hyper-v Cluster Live Migration Failure

$

This is a fairly new deployment.  When I first started having this issue, I foundhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2779204, which suggests that gpupdate /force will temporarily resolve the issue.  That worked for me for several weeks, but no longer.  It was always temporary and I had to do it at least once a day, but even that doesn’t work anymore and my Hyper-V guests are stuck.  I also suspect if I have a Hyper-V host failure, the guests on the failed system will not come back up on the operational host.

kb2779204 suggest adding NT Virtual Machine\Virtual Machines in the entries for Log on as a Service.  I have created a dedicated OU for the virtual hosts (as suggested by the kb article) and moved them to the new OU. I then addedNT Virtual Machine\Virtual Machines in the entries for Log on as a Service, then gpupdate /force and then wait minutes, then hours. It still doesn’t work.  I get 2 slightly different depending on which server I initiate the live migration.

If from the server that currently is running the guest (HV1):

Live migration of 'Virtual Machine vg1' failed.

Virtual machine migration operation for 'dc4' failed at migration source 'HV1'. (Virtual machine ID 140C8893-44EC-481B-B8D5-52FCB8D422DC)

The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to establish a connection for a Virtual Machine migration because the destination host rejected the request: General access denied error (0x80070005).

If from the server attempting to move the guest to (HV2):

Live migration of 'Virtual Machine vg1' failed.

Virtual machine migration operation for 'vg1' failed at migration destination 'HV1'. (Virtual machine ID 140C8893-44EC-481B-B8D5-52FCB8D422DC)

how to delete a failed file share witness

I have a 2 node 2008SP2 (Geographically separated) cluster. I use file and node majority for quorum. There is a file share at third site and both nodes can ping/open the share and the nodes have full controll of the share. Also, there are other cluster/nodes using the same share for quorum. This has worked for several years. After the last round of MS patches the file share witness resource would not come back online for 1 cluster. I tried forcing it online several times but I cancelled after 10 minutes or so. I found that I can add another folder in the original location and reran the qurom wizard, and it came online. I am guessing that maybe the multiple clusters using the same single folder is not good, not sure why it worked for so long though. Anyway, the delete function is gone from the failed file share witness, how can I get rid of the old failed resource?

Thanks

Volume Mount Points in Server 2012 Failover Cluster

$

I am trying to figure how I configure a LUN to use a Mount Point and be available in a failover cluster.  I am currently only able to access a LUN if it is set as a CSV Volume or assigned a drive letter.  I was able to access mount points successfully in 2008 but can't seem to get this working with 2012.  Has this been removed from 2012?

The access disk is more slow when insert 10st disk with Windows Server 2008 R2 Spanish in MSCS with SQL 2008R2

I have a problem in a MSCS when add more than 9 disk in the nodes.

When add 10 disk, the disk management is more slow and all operations whit disks spend a lot of time.  The access to disk needs about 5 minutes for get a Backup of SQL (only for open the browser), and each operation needs 5 minutes too.  Access to diskpart, access to disk management, change de node of SQL... needs this 5 minutes and if the number of disk increases the wait increases too.

The Storage is in EVA HP P6500.

In Exchange 2010 with DAG I have the same problem.

It's possible because the O.S are in Spanish???  How I can make the access faster?  With 9 disks the access is fine but one disk marks the difference.

Cannot add cluster disk on windows 2012

I have 2 servers connected to a shared storage array using Fibre Channel.  Currently there are 2 luns on the storage device.

From the Failover Cluster Manager, when I select “Add Disk” from Storage – Disks, both luns show up and I can add them without problems.  But if I choose to only add one of them first (it doesn't make a difference which one is added first), then it will not allow adding the second one later.  I get a message: "No disks suitable for cluster disks were found. For diagnostic information about disks available to the cluster, use Validate a Configuration Wizard to run Storage tests."

When I do add one (or both disks at the same time), they work just fine for failover clustering.

I can’t imagine this is by design. Is this a known/unknown issue, or is there something special that needs to be done?

Thanks

dfs for quorum file share witness in AG config?

$

Hi,

I'm setting up my first AG using 2 nodes at two sites.  We setup a DFS path that points to and replicates a share on both nodes that I'd like to use as the Quorum File Share.  That way my Quorum would have a vote as long as one of the sites is online.  When using the wizard, it says the DFS path is not valid.  I have permissions set so that the cluster object, nodes, and service accounts have write permissions on the share.  I found one reference that said DFS is not recommended for a Quorum, but I haven't found anything that says why or that I can't do it.

Is it possible to set the Quorum File Share Witness to be a DFS path?  If so, how do I do it (can it be scripted instead of using the wizard)?

I have yearly mandatory shutdowns at each site that i want to avoid by replicating the Quorum rather than losing the cluster if the site containing my Quorum goes down.  My other option is to deploy at a third site, but that site too has mandatory shutdowns.  I need to support automatic and manual failovers.  It's an entirely company-internal environment; I can't use any external cloud computing solutions.

Thanks greatly for your time.

cheers.

Question about a failover issue with Windows 2012 cluster

Hi all,

I implemented at one of my Customer a Windows cluster 2012 for SQL Server AlwaysOn and we faced a problem during a failover test scenario but I just want anyone to confirm if the behavior is normal or not and why.

My configuration is the following :

2 cluster nodes with Windows Server 2012 and a FSW. We don't have a shared storage for this cluster.

We have two network cards on each server. One card ("public") is used for cluster and client communcation and the other ("private") is used for cluster network communication only. The communication between the 2 nodes and the FSW (located on a fileshare server on the same domain) are made by using the "public" card.

We tested different failover scenarios :

1- Shutdown one node --> the failover of the core resources (FSW, name and ip of the cluster) is ok

2- Turn off one node --> failover ok

3- Disable the "private" card on one node --> cluster is ok

4- Disable the "public" card on one node --> no failover occurs and all the core resources are in the failed state

I don't understand why in the situation number 4 the failover doesn't occur. If I issue a manual failover of the core resources the failover works well. If I disable the "private" card after disabling the "public" card on one node the failover also occurs.  Is this behavior normal for you ?

Thanks in advance for your responses

Cluster Disk failover problem

$

Hi Everyone

I have built a Windows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster. It is scheduled to be a HyperV cluster, but I have removed HyperV from the equation as I am having problems.

Its a 2 node cluster connecting to a PS4000 via iscsi.

Network config is

Nic 1 - Host and Cluster Management - 10.160.19.x/24

Nic 2 & 3 - icsci 10.160.46..x/24, MPIO,

Nic 4 - CSV - 10.160.47/24

Nic 5 - LiveMigration - 10.160.49.x/24

Nic6 - VMSwitch - HyperV Virtual Machine "External" nic.

The cluster ip is on 10.160.19.x.

The Cluster validation passes sucessfully and so does creating the cluster and performing post creating validations. When I simulate failures of the Quorum disk, it fails over to the second node after requisites retrys on the first node...all good.

However when I simulate failures on the second cluster disk, it just fails on the primary node. I can bring it online on same node or if I stop the cluster service on that node, everything successfully fails over to the second node. But automatic/simulating failover isn't working.

When I dump out the cluster log(below)this is all the entries pertaining to the failover attempt. Sorry for the log dump.

My analysis of the log, leads me in two directions, Is my nic assignment and config correct? Can I confirm the Cluster disk guids are identical between nodes?

I appreciate any assistance. Apologies on the large log.

Thanks

Clustering times out when attempting MSCS for Exchange 2007 SCC

$

0
Situation:

Attempting to build Exchange 2007 SCC environment. The two vmware virtual nodes pass the verification wizard but fail/time out when doing the actual MSCS wizard. I attempt to build the cluster using Failover Cluster Manager and list both systems as nodes for the cluster, the process stalls/"sits there" when it says "building the cluster" (last step of the chain in wizard before finish) and then ultimately times out leading to failure.
Attempted to build the cluster in parts, so I put system A/Eagle/.57 into cluster with zero issue.  When I attempt to join system B/Hawk/.58, the join process stops/hangs at "Waiting for notification that node hawk is a fully functional member of the cluster."  Running "cluster log /g /level:5" produces an output but the contents do not make any sense. Will post the output following this post for review.

ESX Nodes:

Four physical systems running ESX 4.0 (have not updated to 4.1 or 4.2). Each node in cluster has 2 Quadcore CPU, 48 GB RAM, 12 NIC ports (4 for production network (2 active/2 standby), 2 for FT/HA, 2 for iSCSI, 2 for private isolated network, and 2 unused connections), and a single HBA card with dual connections (port0 connects to controller A of FC SAN, port1 connects to ContollerB of FC SAN). There is not a FC Switch between cluster nodes and SAN.

Virtual Systems:

The non-shard drives are on Dell MD3000i iSCSI SAN and the shard drives (10 total) reside on Dell AX4-5 FC SAN. System-1 has the mappings for the RDM which are used by System-2. DRS is enabled by default but disabled for System1 and System2 so that I can put them both on a single node if necessary. System1 and System2 presently reside on seperate systems to prevent data corruption or connection confusion within the system. System.57 and System.58 are on same networks with same gateway and sub-net mask. Each vm system that will be part of the SCC has two interfaces. One for production network (XXX.XXX.4.__) and one for private network (called MSCS)(192.168.1.__). MSCS network has 192.168.x.x addresses and has no access to the production network as it was intended for internal communication between the two nodes for heartbeats. IPv6 was disabled/unchecked on all interfaces.

Questions:
1) I am lost as to where to look or what is causing the node addition to fail.  Any ideas?
2) Does the MSCS even need the second interface to function?  Is the second interface the problem?
3) Does the second interface need to be on production network as a method to connect to the systems outside of the interface used for Exchange traffic?

**Please excuse the fact I have sanitized some of the following data for security reasons.**

Received 3 warning during SQL Server 2008 setup for clustering

Hi All there..it's me again and again

During my SQL Server 2008 setup, i received this 3 following warning. Unfortunately this is only warning not failed

Below are the warning :

1 .Rule "Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) clustered" generated a warning. The MSDTC service is not clustered. Some features of SQL Server will fail to work when clustered if the MSDTC service is not clustered and bla bla bla

2. Rule "Microsoft .NET Application Security" generated a warning. the computer cannot access the internet. there might be delays in starting a .NET application like management Studio. If navigate to
http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/products/MicrosoftRootAuthority.crl and are prompted to download the
MicrosoftRootAuthority.crl file you should not have .NET security validation issues. It is not necassasry to download the MicrosoftRootAuthority.crl file.

3.  Rule "Network binding order" generated a warning. The domain network is not the first bound network. This will cause domain operation to run slowly and can cause timeouts that result in failure. Use the Window network advanced configuration to change the binding order

For warning no.1, am i supposed to configure MSDTC Resources just like in Clustering win server 2003? Meaning do i need to create "MS DTC IP address", "MS DTC Network Name" and "MS DTC"??

For warning no.2, i have no idea what am i supposed to do

For warning no.3, i did change the binding order by doing placing the Public NIC above Hearbeat NIC under the tab "Adapter and binding" in "Advance Setting" option for both nodes....

TQVM for assisting me in advance

Server 2012 cluster - virtual machine live migration does not work

Hi,

We have a hyper-v cluster with two nodes running Windows Server 2012. All the configurations are identical.

When I try to make a Live migration from one node to the other I get an error message saying:

Live migration of 'Virtual Machine XXXXXX' failed.

I get no other error messages, not even in event viewer. This same happens with all of our virtual machines.

A normal Quick migration works just fine for all of the virtual machines, so network configuration should not be an issue.

The above error message does not provide much information.

The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost

We tried every option suggested in the above article and also lot of other things in technet site.

But still we have some issues in DAG, where it automatically failover from one mailbox server to another.

Isatap interface isatap.{} is no longer active.

Cluster node '' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

Can someone help us to get the solution for this as it is very much frustrating with DAG & win 2k8 R2

Windows 2008 R2 2 node cluster with NFS.

I am trying to set up a 2 node windows 2008 r2 cluster, with shared storage.  Normally I setup the shared storage and quorum with luns and fibre connectivity.  But can you setup the quorum and shared storage with NFS, as we might not have fibre connectivity.

Is this possible to set this up

NVGRE aware Load Balancer

Hi All,

Is there NVGRE aware Load Balancer on the market or does MS NLB is supported over NVGRE Layer?

Is there any Load Balancer which could be used over NVGRE Layer in multi tenant configuration with SDN?

As I know NVGRE is supporting multicast and broadcast, so what is the limitation there?

Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Cluster Shared Volume - I need to evict a node and re-add it

We had a connection failure, as a result one of my nodes shows down in my Windows 2008 Cluster Shared Volume server.

The problem has been resolved, but the node still shows down.

I need to evict the node and re-add it back in.

Can I do that without affecting my current node that is up and running with all my vm's?
