Cluster is getting disconnected

Hello Team,

My cluster is getting disconnected when i open failover cluster manager.

When i ping the cluster name , it's requested timed out.

I tried to move the server hosting cluster from one esxi node to another in different ESXi cluster and could see one service went offline and again i moved back server hosting cluster to the original ESXi node on which it was residing.

Please let me if i can restart cluster service on the server once , I am not able to connect to my cluster and it's says "Cluster got disconnected".

Error validating cluster computer resource name (Server 2016 Datacenter Cluster)

$

An error occurred while executing the test.
The operation has failed. An error occurred while checking the Active Directory organizational unit for the cluster name resource.

    The parameter is incorrect

Interesting enough the cluster name was created successfully in the Computers OU and the cluster can be taken offline and brought back online with no problem. The DNS entry is correct and the cluster name pings to the correct IP.  Changing the name of the cluster will update the cluster computer name in AD with no errors.

Create one shared volume from three physical LUNs

Hi community,

I have 3 LUNs of 1TB. Can I create a 3TB shared volume on them ?

I my knowledge, to add a disk in the cluster it should be basic. but we cannot merge 3 basic disks. Also Failover clustering doesn't support dynamic disks.

Any help please?

FCM live migration of guest vm results in loss of network connectivity to guest but guest has network connectivity

Hi, i support a small Failover Cluster two node setup of Server 2012 R2 which has an iscsi SAN for storage and a teamed 10Gb link dedicated to guest vm network access. Recently we have noticed the following:

A live migration of a guest vm from one host to the other results in:

Loss of network connection TO the guest vm from anywhere (either host, other vms, outside real physical pc etc)

Network connectivity FROM the guest vm however is ok (so the guest retains internet access, dns lookups, can ping other devices

After 10 minutes full network access to the guest vm returns

Things i have noted:

MAC address of guest vm seems to stay the sameRunning a wireshark indicates that there are two GARP's announced at the point where connectivity ceases

Wireshark shows icmp requests from the guest vm to other devices (so we are actually pinging the devices we think we are pinging).

The 10Gb network link is via a cisco sg500x stack of 4 switches, the MAC addrss table refresh on this appears to be 300 secs.

Has anybody seen anyhting like this before ?

Thanks

Roger

server 2012 Hyper-V CSV volume display incorrect space

I have a 2-node server 2012R2 Hyper-V cluster with 3 CSV's the problem is the free space that does not display the correct disk remaining. Last 2 week ago the free space is decreasing(now down from 2 TB to 80 GB). I try to deleted VM from that CSV, but free space not increasing. the free space that does display the correct disk remaining when I move CSV owner to other cluster node.

Now the free space is decreasing(now down from 2 TB to 140 GB) again. The actual disk remaining should be around 210GB.

Could you please advise me how to resolve this issue?.

Thank you

Preventing VM Failover in Hyper-V cluster

Take this example:

* I have a hyper-v cluster severed by a pair of stacked switches and I need to take the whole stack of switches down due to a vendor issue, isolating the network for 5-10 minutes.

* I want to prevent any VM from failing-over during this time, so the network effectively just blips. I want the machines to stay on and stay where they are no matter what.

Would it be sufficient to pause all of the nodes (not draining roles) or is there anything else needed?

Many thanks.

Hello team,

i have two nodes windows cluster running on window server 2008R2 which is running in vsphere environment  and Logical disk are virtual disks(Sql DB, SQL logs)only and not in the LUN wants to know is it normal behavior because i didn't know the disk were added already in the storage disk page as you may see the below screenshot

i have checked that the cluster report and says that no disks were found.

Please let me know the solution. DBA guys says that, issue because of disk is missing in the failover cluster manager under storage but cluster report and cluster events no critical and error messages.

Many thanks in advance

unable to access application using VIP network share

Hi all,

I'm having trouble accessing unc path to the shared application. application is installed on two server app1 and app2 and they can be accessed using UNC path \\app1\application.exe or \\app2\application.exe.

For fail over purpose we have load balancer device which they gave a VIP name app.

Now the application is accessed using \\app\application.exe. Suddenly accessing the VIP UNC path is failing with event log. During this time I can access \\app1\application.exe works fine.

Guidance:
The server is responding over TCP but not over SMB. Ensure the Server service is running and responsive, and the disks do not have high per-IO latency, which makes the disks appear unresponsive to SMB. Also, ensure the server is responsive overall and not paused; for instance, make sure you can log on to it.

Could anyone please suggest a solution.

Unable to create a failover cluster without AD |VM's not detected

Hi,

I am trying to create a failover cluster without AD. The 2 Winserver 2016 machines are in Azure cloud.

They are on same subnet but workgroup machines. able to ping each other using the private IP.

In order to create a domain independent failover cluster in Azure, i followed the instructions here

http://woshub.com/workgroup-failover-cluster-windows-server-2016/

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Premier-Field-Engineering/Domain-Independent-Cluster-and-Availability-Group/ba-p/371462

Since i do not have a DNS server, i am using FQDN of the workgroup machines.

I added the Failover cluster role , when i open "Failover cluster managaer" and click create a new cluster, i am unable to find the 2nd machine to add to cluster.

Basically, i have 1 machine with FCI role installed, but unable to add the 2nd machine.

In command prompt i cannot ping both of them using fqdn, but ping through ip address works fine.I feel i missed out on some settings in IP address or DNS address.

Can someone guide me on the prerequisites or step by step instruction to create a domain independent failover cluster?
After this is complete, i need to add SQL server always on availability group on top of this...

Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel : You do not have administrative privileges on the cluster.

I have just finished updating our cluster nodes from Windows server 2016 to 2019.

On 2 of our clusters there were no issues, but on a 3rd I am having the following issue.

When O go to update the functional level, I get this.

Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel : You do not have administrative privileges on the cluster.

I am a domain admin, in the local admins group on each node, and have full cluster access.

I can run any other administrative powershell cluster command without issue, and can fully admin via the GUI, but running the command Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel gives the no privileges error.

If I ask my other admin to run it, he gets the same.

If I create a net new AD account, assign it local admin on each node, and grant-cluster access full  , that account also get it.

I opened a MS support ticket, but after 10 days I have still yet to get a call back. I even called back in (Sev-B = 4 hours...) and they said, yes I am still in the queue - wth....)

Anyway, I am assuming it is likely a bad registry entry, or something messed up on an AD object perhaps, but not sure where to look.

Cluster Creation Wizard fails with 0x000004ca error

I have already working cluster on 2012 R2 Database with 2 nodes.

Now, I tried to add another one node, but on WinSrv 2019 Database. Failover Cluster Role and MPIO already sets.

All test are good for new node.

But wizard on cluster show this: Error code - 0x5b4.

There is a log:

Не удается добавить ноду к существующему кластеру. Кластер на базе WinSrv2012 R2 Database. Добавляю ноду на 2019 Сервере. Роли стоят, проверки на новой ноде проходят корректно. Но при добавлении нового узла через Мастер выдает ошибку (см.выше ошибку и лог). Права в GPO "Доступ к компьютеру из сети" стоят для Всех. Именно такой код ошибки в инете не нашел нигде. Неужели проблема в совместимости 2012 R2 и 2019 серверов?

How many File Server Roles can a single Failover Cluster have?

Hi Guys,

I am currently testing the Fail-Over Cluster with Windows Server 2016, and it works wonderful for me based on my current requirements. Now, how many file server roles can I have to a single cluster as I am planning to have 15 file server roles to host my 15 file shares? Is it a good idea to have this as a long term approach?

Thanks,

Paul

HangRecoveryAction '6' instead of '3'

When running the validation report for a new Server 2019 Hyper-V cluster I got the following error:

The setting for HangRecoveryAction on this cluster is not the default and recommended setting. This setting controls the action taken if it is detected that the service is not responding. This is configured to have a HangRecoveryAction value of 0x6, the recommended value is 0x3. The following is a list of values and the action that they indicate.

'6' seems to be a new standard value in Server 2019 but I can't find any documentation about what option 6 does. The standard used to be 3, but I'm a bit anxious about changing it back, because this seems to be the new standard.

Does anyone know why this changed and what option 6 means?

Cluster node that cannot add disk

$

We have a MS cluster with 2 nodes.

I have added a third node. There was no problem adding it to the cluster. But this node has separate disk. It is still storage disk. It is presented from a 3PAR. And I cannot add the disk to the cluster. It says no disk is suitable.

But if i present this disk to one of the other previously existing nodes I can add the disk. It is only the new node that can not add the disk.

Any ideas?

SETSPN Clustered Fileserver ROLE does not show the shares when accessed by CNAME MultiSubnet

On windows server 2012 R2 and windows server 2019

I have been trying to setup a Clustered file server role and then I wanted to point at it trough a load balancer. But When I try to access the shares with the cname, the shares are not enumerated, or shown.

I used

setspn -a host/cname cluster_role_name

and

setspn -a host/cname.fqdn cluster_role_name

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

3. Add a new REG_DWORD 32bit entry using the edit menu.

Value name: DisableStrictNameChecking

Any Ideas What I am missing?

Server 2016 Hyper-Converged cluster disk speed degraded.

Hi Guys

We have a 2 Server 2016 Hyper-Converged cluster running storage and VM's.

We have SSD 900gb (2 per server) as cache drives and spinning disk 1.1tb (4 per server) for the DATA drives.

When we <g class="gr_ gr_85 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" data-gr-id="85" id="85">setup</g> the cluster and we tested new VM's running on the cluster we were getting about 900mb/sec.

The cluster has been running now for about 6 mount's one of the developer complained about the speed on a VM.

Now when I test I only get about 200mb/sec. I cannot see any errors on the Cluster. The only thing I can pick up that the SSD's only have about 30gb space left. Is there a way to clear the cache or reinitialize the cache?

Hyper V cluster

Hello.

I am trying to add a hyper V cluster to Virtual Machine Manager Console. However it says that it cannot connect to the cluster with error 25300/ ID 13805.

But I have other Hyper V clusters that are successfully added.

Network/Ip address wise, the successfully added hyper V cluster and the failed cluster are both not in the same segment as the Virtual Machine Manager console.

Both successful and failed hyper V clusters are able to telnet 5985 to and fro to SCVMM.

Not sure if this is a scvmm issue or cluster issue, I wish to find out what settings that I might have missed in comparison to the two Hyper V clusters settings.

I have posted the same question on the scvmm thread.
